DEATH WAIL

That moment

That moment when
you know that you can’t

When you know
that you can’t handle
anything else
or go
any further

AND
you decide
to
stop

you decide
this level of suffering
for your own personal
conscious awakening
is not worth

the weight
and the pain
of wrestling your own shadow
for some very faint whisper
of possible enlightenment

AND
your heart cries out
with more desperation
more grief
than it could possibly
generate on its own

your heart
and everything behind
and everything beyond
keen the death wail for
The Warrior You Thought You Were

AND
the echo of your wailing
returns to you
bouncing off of walls
that you take for emptiness
increasing the volume
with each howl

AND
the longer you lament
the more you come
to realize how deeply
you have traveled into the
infinite canyons of
THAT WHO RECEIVES

in the echo
of your heart’s cry
you recognize that
you have been
received

you have been received

AND
you are being answered.

The death wail of
The Warrior You Thought You Were
echoes back
a War Cry from
The Warrior You Are Becoming

The Warrior You Are Becoming
has been watching
watching as the original fracture
festered into a wound
that passed from
generation to generation
each individual
managing or ignoring it
in his or her own way

The Warrior You Are Becoming
followed this ancient line of pain
and said, in response,

Yes
yes I will help carry that too
because
as heavy as it is
it will strengthen me to do
The Work I Was Made For

yes I will carry this wound
until I become
so single-handedly strong
that this wound
along with
The Warrior I Thought I Was
are crushed to death
under the weight of the
Mountain of Myself

my heart
and everything behind
and everything beyond
will keen the death wail for
The Warrior I Thought I Was

AND
the longer the lyrics of lament
echo over and over
the dust of My bones
the ashes of My loss
the rubble heap of Myself
ricocheting through the canyons of
THAT WHO RECEIVES

the more I will come
to realize how deeply
I have traveled into the
infinite canyons of
The Warrior I Am Becoming

in the echo
of my heart’s cry
I recognize that
I have been
received

I have been received

AND
I am being answered.

AND
The death wail of
The Warrior You Thought You Were
echoes back as
the War Cry from
The Warrior You Are Becoming
